Minister? Funeral Celebrant or a Humanist?
So who do we chose to officiate at a loved ones funeral?
1.A minister from a church, if the family or the deceased has a faith.
2. A Funeral Celebrant
3. A Humanist Celebrant
The primary difference between a funeral celebrant and a humanist lies in the approach to spirituality and the content of the service:
1. **Funeral Celebrant**:
– A funeral celebrant can officiate both religious and non-religious services.
– They customize the service to fit the wishes and beliefs of the deceased and their family, incorporating any cultural, spiritual, or personal elements.
– A celebrant can include prayers, hymns, and religious readings if desired.
2. **Humanist**:
– A humanist officiates non-religious services that are often based on the principles of humanism, which emphasize human values and reason.
– Humanist funerals focus on celebrating the life of the deceased without any religious content or references.
– The service usually includes personal stories, memories, and secular readings.
In summary, while a funeral celebrant is more flexible and can adapt to a variety of religious and non-religious preferences, a humanist will always provide a strictly non-religious service.
